A dance recital, a Santa Claus visit, and Temple Square

Here are some pictures of what we have been up to the last couple of days....

Why why why am I such a scrooge. I think going to the mall to see Santa Claus is one of the things that I feel like you have to do, rather than get to do, during Christmas time. I just don't like dealing with no parking, long lines, and rude people! Reason why I do most of my shopping online. But I do have to say this year was not so bad, we went to Fashion Place mall and there was only three people in line in front of us.

and...YaY!!!Kyanna didn't cry this year. Do you like how not one child is looking at the camera?

I don't like how dark these turned out, but oh well. Here is Kyanna's dance recital, it was so flippin cute. I must say right before it was her turn she was clinging to my leg pretty good and so I thought that there is no way she is going to out there, but she did it! TOO CUTE!

For FHE last night we made our annual visit to Temple Square! Growing up it was tradition to go to Temple Square on Christmas Eve, well Brett's family always has a Christmas Eve party so we try and go for FHE every year!

ha ha I love this picture of Will!

am I a terrible Mom, I made my baby, who has bronchitis mind you, go out in the cold. But really I am pretty sure she was warmer than the rest of this. This little coat is awesome, we have had it ever since Will is a baby. It keeps them SO warm usually they are sweating when we take them out.

And just because she is cute....

Wow that was like three posts in one!

6th month check-up

Jenna had her six month check-up yesterday! She is doing good, other than this nasty cough she has had for the past two weeks but I'll talk about that in a minute. She is now 14lbs 6 oz, which puts her in the 21% for weight, which great considering that at her 2 week check-up she was in the 4th percentile. She is in the 59% of height. And no big surprise here, her head was, well.... off the charts big, but I personally think they were just a little too generous with the head measurement. She is doing all what a cute little six month old like herself should be doing, rolling over, sitting up, eating baby food, and grabbing just about everything she can. So much fun.

Anyways like I said she has had this yucky cough for about 10 days now. I took her to the Dr. 10 days ago when it started to get bad and she checked out fine so I wasn't worried. The Dr. said if she gets worse bring her in. Well she has never gotten worse it just hasn't gone away. So on Wed. the Dr. listened to her lungs and decided that she better get a chest x-ray.

Well have you ever seen what they put little babies into for a chest x-ray. The only words that come to my mind is pure torture. I searched and searched for a good image to show, but this is the only one that I could find which was kind of close.

Now notice how the baby is smiling and happy to be there and thinking this is lots of fun. Well...that is SO not how it really is. There is NO cute blanket hanging up, just a black one. NO teddy bear sitting next to you, no you are in this cold empty room with only a bed and huge x-ray machine. And you don't get to stand there and hold her arms up. NO! NO! NO! They do make them straddle and then you put there arms up in the air over there ears while they enclose them in this plastic type wrap and then strap it closed. REALLY it's like pure torture not only for the baby, but for the parent that has to watch her baby be like this. And then they make you leave the room to take the x-ray! Luckily it didn't last very long, but I hated watching Jenna in this think. UGH!

So I guess what Jenna has is bronchiolitis, which is the baby form of bronchitis. She is really been so good, you would never guess that she is sick until you hear her cough. I just hope that it ends soon!

Best Friends

I sure love to see Will and Kyanna playing together. MOST of the time they play so well. I love that they are close enough in age that they are able to have so much fun with each other. Although I must say when they fight, and they DO fight, it can get ugly quick. They are either the best of friends or the worst of enemies. But more often than not they like each other.

Watching a movie. Also Will is sooo good to put with Kyanna!

Actually as you will see in the next picture. Will is getting ready to throw a snowball at Kyanna.

Yup there it is.

I just love this picture of Will!

Recipes

For those of you interested in my pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and bread recipes I posted them here. The pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are SOOOOO good! And more recipes to come.

Halloween Pictures. FINALLY!!!!

O.k. here are my Halloween pictures. I know I know it took me WAY too long to get these up. Even seriously I thought about not even doing it, but since this is a journal/scrapbook of sorts I thought that I better record Halloween 09. I don't know why but for some reason I was a bah hum bug with Halloween this year. If Brett hadn't gotten Kyanna's Snow White costume from the D.I. and if Will had decided to be anything else this year other than Darth Vader (his costume from last year) they would not of even had costumes. And Jenna's tutu I actually made a couple of months ago.

I don't know what happened to me this year. We didn't even carve pumpkins at all! No haunted houses (not that we would do that anyways), no corn mazes, NOthing. After about a street and half of trick-or-treating the kids were done and that was just fine with me.

I have decided that I need to be better at celebrating Holidays, not for me, but for my kids. I really need to make them fun and memorable. So I will try harder. But hey at least I got pictures so in years to come the kids, hopefully, will forget the Halloween that we didn't really celebrate.

I actually let Kyanna wear make-up. It's the one time of the year that it's o.k. for little girls to wear make-up. Actually surprising that I even had any!
Pictures with cousin Greyden!

Getting ready to go trick-or-treating.
Oh one other thing I should probably record as well. While we out getting candy we came to a pretty scary house. Now I realize that my motherly instincts should have kicked in at some point during this whole thing but I guess I didn't use them. Anyways as we were walking up I saw some kids, probably around 11-13 ages getting into the trunk of the car, into the garbage can, and behind the garbage can. I KNEW that they were going to try and scare us. But what did we do, we walked up to the doorstep anyways. And of course they jumped out of the trunk, garbage can, and everywhere else and scared the living day lights out of my kids. Ruined the rest of the night. Seriously why didn't I just skip this house I knew that they were going to do this.
On the way home I was talking to Kyanna, trying to explain that they weren't being very nice and they shouldn't of tried to scare us ( I really think they probably didn't know better) and she suggested that go back and "spank their butts". Well I don't think that would have gone over very well, but she had the right idea :)

Christmas Stockings!

This pictures is really for my Grandma so that she can know what to do for Jenna's stocking this year. But aren't these so cute! I think that she does an amazing job and I am so happy that she does this for me and my family. I hope that my kids will treasure these stockings as much as I do! Thank you Grandma White!

Having Fun with Photoshop

I am having fun with my new camera and photoshop (thanks again Todd don't know what we do without you!) So here is what I have been working on. Basically I know very very little about photoshop except that it's not user friendly at all. But I have found some really cool tutorials on line that I have been trying out.
I am still learning so some of these I don't totally love but....oh well!
Will vintage look
t.
Kyanna enhanced
Jenna enhanced
I think this one is my favorite it's half sepia.
And then this one is supposed to look faded.

All the Matters is that it passed...

So it's been a frustrating month when it comes to our cars situation, well among other things too, like sick kids. Anyways last year, I don't know what we were thinking, but we bought two cars in the same month. So this year we get to have safety, emissions, and register both of our cars together. So much fun! Well the van passed no problems. The civic did not.
Stupid, stupid, stupid horn does not work which means it does not pass the safety inspection. We bought a new horn and Brett hooked it up. Didn't work. Brett checked the spark plugs. Didn't work. At this point we are thinking, crap, what are we going to do. Brett called a couple of places and they all said just to find out what is wrong with the horn would be about 80 bucks then however long it took them to fix it. Now we are getting into numbers that are starting to be more than what the car is actually worth. O.k. maybe not that much but pretty close!
I was getting mad because it seems so dumb to me that we have to spend all this money on a car that works perfectly except for the stupid horn.

So Brett got an idea from a co-worker on what to do. And this is what they came up with.....
So seriously how ghetto is this. Yup that is the horn.
Brett has made up a label that says "Press here for horn" that he is going to put above it. All that matters is that it passed! I have to wonder what the guys at the inspection place were thinking when they saw this. It can't be the worse thing ever. I am pretty sure that I remember one of my brothers tying their bumper to the rest of the car with some string. Anyone ever do anything creative to their car to pass inspection?

Just Jenna!

So after I updated my blog with new family pictures I received a few comments about how they haven't seen Jenna for awhile and can't believe how big she is getting. And then I started looking through some of my old posts and realized that I hardly have any pictures of Jenna on here. So this post is dedicated just to her. I really really want to avoid the whole third child syndrome, where you have tons of pictures of your first one, some of your second, and hardly any at all of your third. So here they are. She is starting to do some really fun stuff. She grabs for everything, and I mean everything be very careful with you hair if you get to close she grabs on and doesn't let go, she has sent Kyanna crying a couple of times! She is rolling over all the time, she started rice cereal, she will smile at everyone (we call her a ham), and dare I jinx myself, but is mostly sleeping through the night. I just love this little girl she is such a good little baby.

Halloween Potions

We have been going just a little stir crazy with Kyanna being sick. So yesterday I let the kids make a witches potion with all of the stuff from our refrigerator.

Yes this potion consists of a little bit of ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, steak sauce, Parmesan cheese, relish, oatmeal, lime and lemon juice and who know what else, I think cranberry juice.

And then me, being the mean mom that I am, suggested that they try some and they did! Big surprise they didn't like it.

Oh well I still think that it was fun for them!

Amazing Gift!

So just when I was starting to get really bummed about not having a camera, we were starting to miss some milestones with Jenna and other stuff, and getting REALLY REALLY close to going out and buying a camera even when we didn't have the money. We had an amazing gift given to us! My brother and sister-in-law gave us their old camera. Now this isn't some dinky thing that you just go out and buy at minimal cost. This is a super nice camera, in fact probably TOO nice for me, I am not sure how to use it, but I am excited to learn and also excited that in the meantime it has an automatic setting as well. So I will finally be able to post more pictures. This was really a blessing for us. Thanks you so much Steph and Todd for being so generous and thoughtful we needed a camera badly! So be ready for lots of pictures again!

Emergency Preparedness

o.k. so I just tried the emergency food analyzer from Emergency Preparedness and I have 65 days of food storage. Wahoo! Actually that's a little less than I thought that I had, but it didn't ask me about all of my food that I have (so I think that I actually have more!)It's a pretty cool thing and gives me a little bit better idea of what I need. I really liked it! Anyways since I did this I will hopefully receive a 10$ gift card to Emergency Preparedness. I got one a couple of weeks ago and there are ALOT of things under 10 dollars. We got whole wheat flour and dough enhancer and the flour is already gone. Been making bread like crazy. Dough enhancer is amazing! Anyways you should go to there website here and check it out and do it yourself!

Sometimes Being a Mom is HARD......

o.k. not sometimes, but lets admit it most of the time!

Disclaimer: I love my children to death. I would do anything for them anytime anyplace. I am so so so thankful to have them in my life, truly the bring so much joy and I will, hopefully, never take for granted what they are really worth to me.

BUT sometimes being a mom is hard work! These last few days have for some reason been extremely hard. Let's start out with Tuesday afternoon. Will and Kyanna were watching a movie and asked for some popcorn. What was my first mistake... MAKING THEM POPCORN and then letting them eat it in the living room. Of course I didn't stay in there with them (my fault!) I was hoping to take this time to actually get something done, since the baby was sleeping.

I walked into the living room and found that they had dumped the entire bowl of popcorn all over the floor! Oh BOY I was so Mad! Maybe more at myself because really I should have known better. Anyways so they were told that they had to clean it all up. William, of course, started right away picking up the popcorn, Kyanna on the other hand, just watched William clean. So I said "o.k. Kyanna you have to clean up the rest and you can't leave this room until it is all clean".

uhm......yeah three and half hours later, YES THREE hours later, Kyanna was still in the living room not cleaning up the popcorn. We had eaten dinner, played a game, had dessert. I tried everything I could to make her clean it up and she just wouldn't. Can we say stubborn. So I hurried up and spoon fed her dinner and got her ready for bed. An hour after that she was finally asleep. Seriously child. I hope she learned a lesson, however, I was the one cleaning up the popcorn at that point.

Wednesday.... I had a Dr.'s appt. for Will and Jenna. So I packed all three of them up and we went to the Dr.'s. Really no problem at the appt. Jenna is doing well, growing like she should. But for some reason I thought well while I am here lets get Will and Kyanna there flu shot. So all three kids ended up having shots, Jenna's was her immunizations. Let me just say I will NEVER have all three kids gets shots at the same time again.

After the appt. we had to hurry up home eat lunch and then hurry to dance. Kyanna was starting to act a little whiny, which is really not that unusual, and started to complain about the shot. I just kind of ignored her and hurried her to dance. Well.....she puked at dance. That was fun and embarrassing. Poor girl my parents had even come to watch her dance. She then proceeded to throw up about 5 more times. I called the Dr. and he wanted to see her again because he thought it might be a reaction to the flu shot. So I packed up the kids again (minus Will, since he went with my parents, thankfully) Poor girl threw up two more times in the car and once at the dr.'s office. ( and now I am feeling bad for the night before cause maybe she wasn't feeling good)

We may never really know if it was a reaction or just a flu bug. But she has not been doing well.

Then in the middle of the night Kyanna wet her bed three different times. Then this morning she wet my bed. FUN! Then when Will woke up he had an diarrhea accident in his bed. So lucky me I got to wash everybody's sheets today and throw away two pairs of underwear. I heard a funny mom advice that read "just throw away the poopy underwear" yeah she was right. I think think that Kyanna is feeling better tonight. I really hope so. Then on top of all this I have been dealing with a cranky 4 month old with a low grade fever from her shots and a five year old who is bored because we just kind of had a restful day (well for the kids at least).

O.k. this post is getting really long and now I am starting to feel bad for complaining about my hard days. Because I really am thankful for my kids I guess I just need to complain and whine like they do sometimes. They weren't kidding when they said being a mom will be the hardest thing you have ever done and yes it is true (because I have done both) going to work is easier than staying home. Although I have to say that going to work is VERY VERY hard when your heart is at home with your kids (done that too and I would rather be home).

September 29

Plenty of things happened on September 29. Here is a list of a few historical events:

The Scotland Yard was formed in 1829.
The cornerstone is laid for the Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC in 1907.
Radio is first used in a presidential campaign in 1936.
For you baseball fans, S.F. Giants outfielder Willie Mays caught a fly ball over his shoulder, one of the most recognized catches in baseball history. (Sorry, I had to relate something in sports)
NASA starts up its space shuttle flights following the Challenger disaster in 1988.

While these are all nice things to have happened, the greatest piece of history happened in Hopkins, Minnesota. Those that were alive might have thought it was an ordinary day, but it was a day that changed my life forever. Yes, this is Brett taking over Kelly's blog once again. And yes, that means that it is Kelly's Birthday. In 1977, a little girl named Kelly Lynn White was born to Jim and Kathy White. She was 7 lbs. 4 oz. and about 19 inches long. She was the first of four children born to them. Now, 32 years later, she is the wonderful mother of three children. I was lucky enough to first date her seven years ago, and have enjoyed the last six as her husband. She is such a wonderful wife and mother. She teaches me something new each and every day. I am so glad that I got to keep her for time and all eternity. I love you very much, Kelly! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Prices in 1977:
Bread-$0.32/loaf
Milk-$1.44/gallon
Eggs-$1.30/dozen
Car-$5,814
Gas-$0.64/gallon
Home-$54,200

Until next year, I bid the readers adieu.

Officially DEAD

Well it looks like my crappy camera is officially dead. This is good news and bad news. Good news is now it I might as well get a nice one this time around, one that I like and will hopefully last a little longer. Bad news is that I lost all of the pictures from Will's Birthday (that I was going to post tonight) which makes me very very sad and I made a really cute meal planning book that I was going to show a picture of as well. Also we don't have a whole heck of a lot of money right now, so I am not sure when we are going to be able to afford one. SIGH! So if anyone know of any good deals on any good cameras LET ME KNOW!

Happy Birthday William!!!

I know it's a Christmas picture, but he looks so flippin cute in his Santa outfit that I couldn't resist. Happy Birthday my sweet William. Love this kid so much. He is my little helper, he has been so great since Jenna has been born and actually feel sometimes like maybe I expect him to do more than a little 5 year old should do, but he is always willing to help! I love how he loves to play with his sister! I love that he is so passionate about the things that he loves. Star Wars, legos, coloring! Hope you have a great birthday kid!

Busy Week

Well we had a very busy and exciting week. First on Tuesday it was Will and Kyanna's first day of preschool. Kyanna was so so excited that she finally gets to go to preschool like her brother. All last year that is all that she wanted to do. We are lucky enough to have a Joy School that we are doing so Will and Kyanna are going to be in the same class and even more exciting is that for two months of the year I will get to be their teacher. I think it will be so much fun!
First day of Preschool!
Then later that night Will started T-ball. So much fun! Even more exciting is that Brett gets to be his coach. Ha ha for Brett though is that the team is the Boston Red Sox not great for a Yankee fan, I think it's fantastic though! Especially if we end up going to a Red Sox game for the reunion next year. It was cute to watch and it will be fun to see how much more improved Will will be this year from last year.
Hey at least he isn't picking his nose this year!
Then on Wednesday we went to a awesome museum called the Treehouse Museum with my Sister-in-law Steph and the kids cousin Dallin. It was so great because it's much like the museum downtown but much much cheaper. Unfortunately it was way up in Ogden, so it won't be something that we will be doing to terribly often but definetly again.
Will and Kyanna acting out a scene!
Will, Kyanna, and Dallin standing on the map of the United States!
And even us parents were able to get out and have some fun this weekend. We went to the Jon Schmidt concert with Nate and Nancy down at Thanksgiving Point, kind of pre-birthday outing for me! It was so fun and he is fantastic! The weather was great, no kids, music was great, really couldn't ask for much more!

Waiting for the concert to start, it was soooo crowded.

Then today poor little Jenna hasn't been feeling great and this morning I noticed white little dots inside her cheeks so I took her to the Kids Care and sure enough she has thrush! She is the first of my kids to have this and let me tell you I am not loving it, I feel so bad for her. Hopefully she will start feeling better soon. And that about sums up our busy week!
